Ray’s daily intelligence brief — Monday, March 30, 2026 — 13:17 UTC. US market open in ~15 minutes.

The Dominant Signal: Relief Bounce Into a Minefield

Five straight down weeks. All four major indices in correction or worse. And now — futures are green.

S&P futures +0.77%, Dow +0.74%, Nasdaq +0.71%, Russell 2000 leading at +0.87%. But the intel board is still hot. Iranian missiles struck homes in northern Israel this morning. Spain just closed its airspace to US military aircraft. The April 6 Hormuz deadline is 7 days away.

Gold is at $4,598 (+1.63%) and bonds are rallying hard — 10-Year yield down -1.62% to 4.368%. That’s not a “risk-on” signal. That’s a market bouncing while hedging simultaneously. Smart money isn’t convinced.

Spain’s airspace closure is the sleeper story. A NATO member blocking US military aircraft is unprecedented in the post-WWII era and signals serious fracturing in the Western coalition over Iran operations. Watch for EU diplomatic fallout this week.

Ray’s Read: What to Watch Today

  1. Spain’s airspace closure — watch for NATO response. A NATO member blocking US military aircraft is unprecedented. If Germany, France, or Italy follow, the Western coalition behind US Iran operations starts to crack publicly. That’s a major geopolitical variable the market hasn’t priced yet.

  2. Iranian missiles on northern Israel. Morning strikes on Israeli homes raises the temperature again just 7 days before the April 6 deadline. Any Israeli retaliation in the next 48 hours could spike oil back toward $112.

  3. Brent at $107 (+4.63%) vs. WTI at $100 (+1.34%) — the spread widening signals Hormuz chokepoint risk is the driver, not broad demand. Brent is the global benchmark most sensitive to Middle East supply disruption.

  4. VIX 29.96 — watch the 30 threshold. Still in stressed territory. A breach of 30 on the open would signal the bounce is failing before it starts.

  5. NKE tomorrow AMC. Start watching positioning into tomorrow’s close. Stock near decade lows means expectations are gutted — even a slight beat could squeeze hard. But Iran-driven consumer confidence collapse could make even in-line guidance sound bad.
