Markets had priced in significant US-China trade de-escalation — BABA gained 8% on Wednesday, China tech rallied broadly, and bulls were talking about tariff normalization. Now Trump is back home with “very successful talks” and no confirmed deals. That’s not a catalyst — that’s a reversal.
The Xi Taiwan warning earlier this week was the tell. The summit was optics, not substance.
